Types of Avocados Grown Here in California

Organic Food for a holistic weight loss promoting diet

Avocados, California Grown

Do you know how many different types of avocados are grown right here in California? Well there over 500 types of avocados, but mainly several are grown here, with haas avocados being the most popular (about 95%). I thought about this recently because I wasn’t sure about the type of avocados that were growing on my tree. I thought they were gwen avocados, but instead they ended up being fuerte avocados (see if you can tell by the picture).  There is nothing better tasting than some fresh organic guacamole that can go on almost anything. Why are avocados great? Because they contain the healthy polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats that your body needs, and they taste good too!

So what are some of the different varieties?

I din’t realize that there were so many types of avocados available. I like to add avocados into my salad or into a green smoothie drink. Avocados have the healthy fat that our body craves and helps with brain function.

Avocado’s in a smoothie! I have to try that! I make a banana/spinach/peanut butter smoothie which comes out really great! However, I’m trying to eat foods that are grown locally, so I’m trying to find a substitute for banana’s that would still make the smoothie taste great. But I will try the avocado shake this week!
