Using Kung Fu in MMA: A Nice Mixed Martial Arts Example

This is a good example of an MMA Fighter utilizing kung fu concepts and strikes in a match.

Strikeforce is a MMA fight league that is just under the UFC. Many of their matches can be seen on Showtime. Here we have Lorenz “the Monsoon” Larkin vs Gian Villante who is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a kick boxer. They both are great martial artist and much respect to both of their fighting abilities. The announcer said alot of MMA guys “don’t understand that level of striking” but he does. Lorenz Larkin has a background in boxing and a decent enough ground game to keep him afloat.

Kung Fu is about hard work, and no matter what your style of martial art is, it will help you become a better martial artist and and a better person.

Now I personally think that MMA has many areas needed for improvement for the safety of the fighters and bringing in true humility to the sport, but I also believe that you practice a martial art to defend yourself. For this need you must test your skill against new and innovative techniques that emerge.  This way you grow as a person, your martial art grows as an art, and you begin to realize why some traditions survive and are passed down.
